10 ideas to take care of yourself on Valentine’s day

Wether you are in a relationship or not, the 14th of February is a great occasion to remember to dedicate ourself to the person with whom we spend most of our time: us.

So here is a list of 10 things you can do on this special day
Be your own Valentine!

1. Hang out with someone who makes you laugh
be it your friends, or the least expected of human beings, spend some time with people who can lift your spirits, making your day a better one.

2. Take a stroll somewhere you like
Walk around some place where you feel at ease, take your time, follow your favourite paths exclusively.

3. Revel in a long relaxing bath
Hot water has the same therapeutical power of a glass of warm milk: it relaxes you and lessens both the mental and the physical tension. Treat yourself to half an hour of peace. If you don’t have a bathtub, you could still opt for an endless shower or a foot-bath with some essences.

4. Sleep in
Treat yourself to more sleep, turn to the side and keep company to your pillow for a little longer. Or else, why don’t you reserve an hour after lunch for a nap? Otherwise, you could go to sleep earlier than usual: taking care of oneself means also getting some time to recharge!

5. Be self-indulgent
We are always prone to self-judgement, it can’t be helped. Let’s try to do something less automatic, but more useful today: let’s forgive ourselves. We are not always perfect, and we know it, but there is nothing wrong in making mistakes. Very often we call “mistakes” those experience that can lead us to the right answer.

6. Discover something new: a record or a book
In this time in history it is possible to extend our knowledge without having to spend a single cent. Look for the free e-book version of some literature classics you don’t know yet, or ask Spotify for something that meets your musical taste. Let words and tunes surprise you!

7. Allow yourself to say “no”
How many things are the things we do just because we have to and not because we actually want to? Let’s declare February 14 International Day of the Sincere Answer and spend it paying attention to our wishes (within the limits clearly).

8. Marathon your favorite TV shows
Before the romantic dinner, or instead of the romantic dinner, spend some time with the couples you have been shipping for years: the ones on the TV shows you watch so keenly! And remember, it doesn’t matter how many times you have watched an episode, there is always going to be one line you still don’t know by heart!

9. Be brave and trust your instinct
That t-shirt you love but anyone says it doesn’t quite fit you? Buy it! You’ll never be able to satisfy everyone’s taste, then why try so hard? Follow your own advice.

10. Think of yourself
Self-centredness is seen as a bad quality in people, but thinking about yourself doesn’t mean stop thinking about others. It’s about setting some priorities: feeling good, loving yourself, get along with yourself, because you are the only person you’ll never be able to do without.
