While you’re waiting to read Abigail Tarttelin’s interview, whose answers come directly from Hollywood (and are going to be online on Monday), we are very pleased to let you know that someone from the opposite side of the US (and to be more specific, from Brooklyn), has recently reached us as well.
We are talking about Jason Feinberg, the CEO and Creative Director of FCTRY, a design brand headquartered in the State of New York.
This company, famous for having released an Obama action figure on the market in 2008, had a few weeks ago decided to launch a Kickstarter campaign in order to produce a new action figure, whose features will be the ones of the most famous female politician and lawyer in the US – Hillary Clinton (this campaign reached and exceeded its original goal).
In the e-mail Jason has recently written us, it’s possible to understand both why his company chose Hilary Clinton and why he has personally decided to contact us:
Our goal in designing the figure was to create a cool iconic action figure in the spirit of Star Wars, not Barbie. In fact, we think Hillary Clinton is essentially the ideal anti-Barbie.
First things first: by telling you this, we are not trying to give you any kind of political advice regarding Hilary Clinton. Everyone has his personal political beliefs and point of views.
What we are instead trying to do is providing you some food for thoughts: bearing in mind the fact that this action figure is neither based on a woman’s beauty, nor on her status quo (but is actually based on her public role as a politician), why does the (essentially ordinary) choice of using Hilary Clinton as an action figure represent such a disruptive breaking point in our society?
So, while we’re waiting for this action figure to hit the Italian market, we would like to hear your opinions about this topic – what do you think about it? Is it a good idea? What’s the kind of message this project is trying to spread to the world?
