Paris: we won’t be pointing fingers

We are a feminist project, therefore we are a project that deals with and defends human rights.
And it’s undeniable that what happened on Friday night has violated in the most brutal possible way any human right.

We are faced with a Europe torn by grief, seeing 129 lifeless brothers and sisters covered by a white sheet.
It’s not easy to analyse the situation. And we don’t even want to because it’s not our job to do so. And we do not want to join the army of those who speculate, compare and use sarcasm.

We want to think, maybe even cry.

And we do it with the awareness that we must remain alert to avoid degeneration and falling for ridiculous propaganda. Let us not be guided by easy conclusions, things are indeed complicated. We won’t succumb to the siren call: we will be faced with a different task and this is why we won’t be pointing fingers towards anyone.

We won’t be pointing fingers towards the refugees fleeing war.
We won’t be pointing fingers towards the millions of immigrants from all over Europe, who are stunned by these events just as much as we are.
We won’t be pointing fingers towards the one and a half billion Muslims around the world.
We won’t even be pointing fingers towards profiteers.
We won’t be suggesting the use of missiles, bombs and grenades.

Because we are different. We are different from the architects of the Paris massacre.

We would like to conclude our brief thought borrowing some words of Martin Luther King Jr.:

“The ultimate weakness of violence is that it is a descending spiral, begetting the very thing it seeks to destroy. Instead of diminishing evil, it multiplies it. Through violence you may murder the liar, but you cannot murder the lie, nor establish the truth. Through violence you may murder the hater, but you do not murder hate. […] Returning violence for violence multiplies violence, adding deeper darkness to a night already devoid of stars. Darkness cannot drive out darkness: only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate: only love can do that.”
