DISCLAIMER: I’ll avoid to mention the plot, characters and gameplay, for two main reasons: a) it is not a new game, b) for this kind of info, I’ll refer you to the n-thousand review sites.
From the development point of view, ME saga is not so different from other RPGs where you can choose the characteristics (appearance, abilities, weapons and so on) of your characters; however, over the years (the first chapter was born in 2007 and the last in 2012) something has changed!

In ME1 and ME2 (2010) the male version of Shepard is strictly heterosexual, however, the character may decide to start a “revolutionary” interracial relationship with the alien Liara. Year 2014, the harsh truth is that if we ever discovered alien civilization, they wouldn’t welcome us with open arms, but it’s more likely they would do us a favor and eras us from the universe. Seriously, what alien would want to deal with a race that after thousands of years still has problems to grant equal rights to individuals because of different skin color, culture, gender and sexual orientation? E.T did not want to go home for being nostalgic, he just wanted to run to tell his friends that a few billion light years far from them there was a funny planet inhabited by brainless creatures. We’re some kind of a space joke.
